Every long driver has a unique story about their journey into the sport. Some have a background playing professionally in another sport, like Bobby Bradley, a Top 10 draft pick in the 1999 MLB Draft. Others have dedicated their entire lives to playing golf and then turned pro, like Cassandra Meyer, a member of the Junior Ryder Cup team. However, Bobby Ray has a different experience than most, as he was a winner of the American reality television show: “Paradise Hotel.” Even after finishing his collegiate golf career, and winning Paradise Hotel, golf remained a significant part of Bobby's life, and he could never get himself to stray too far away from the game he loves.
After attaining his degree from the University of Tampa, Bobby embarked on his professional career. However, an opportunity presented itself shortly after graduation. Bobby was asked to go on a brand-new Fox Network show, “Paradise Hotel” which was gearing up to shoot their first season with the winner receiving $250,000.” “I got the offer to go on the show, but the catch was I would have to quit my job to go, so I took the chance, and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my life.” Bobby’s natural ability to be personable and a true entertainer made him the perfect fit for the show and a quick fan favorite.
“I have always been someone who has confidence in who I am, but at the same time, it’s daunting to go out on national TV and have 120 cameras following your every move. “Said Bobby about his experience on Paradise Hotel Season 1. “I feel like it was the perfect opportunity to show who I am which gave me some confidence going into anything else in life, knowing that if I could do this on a national stage and have success doing it, I truly feel like I can give anything a shot, which has translated into the Long Drive world as well.” Once the show finished, opportunities presented themselves in the form of commercials and other similar appearances, but Bobby’s love of golf never left him, drawing him to the sport of long drive.
In 2022, Bobby burst onto the scene, placing 12th in his first tournament ever, while hitting balls 400+ in just his first season competing. In a short time, he has risen through the ranks to become the 18th-best hitter in World Long Drive. Since he began competing in long drives, Bobby has made it a priority to give back to charities through the game of golf in any way he could. His efforts have raised over $500,000 for charities across the country, and helping others is always on his mind. “I try to acknowledge how lucky I really am. It’s important to me to try to keep perspective on that and understand not everyone is in the situation I am lucky enough to be in. I want to do everything in my power to help others who are less fortunate.
“The special thing about Long Drive and the golf community is the tie to charity more than any other sport. Everyone has an opportunity to raise money for foundations or charities through their efforts on the course even if they are not a PGA pro. This is one of the reasons I want to do all I can, as well as encourage everyone in the sport to go out to charity events, donate money, and give back through this game of golf that has given us all so much in our lives.” Along with raising money for the foundations, the addition of Bobby Ray to any outing enhances the event experience for all the hitters.
Bobby Ray, an accomplished hitter on the World Long Drive Tour, has gained valuable experience through his journey to the top. He honed his golf skills while studying at the University of Tampa and later, his participation in the popular TV show, Paradise Hotel, helped him develop mental toughness and the ability to handle high-pressure situations with ease. Despite his success, Bobby remains committed to giving back to the community and supporting charitable causes. As a result of his efforts, he has become an ambassador for the growth of the sport and an inspiration to many aspiring players.
